Couples Therapy FAQ
What is couples therapy?
Couples therapy (sometimes called marriage counseling or relationship therapy) helps partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and build a stronger and deeper bond, while creating a healthier relationship. I provide tools and strategies to strengthen and deepen your connection.
How do I know if my partner and I need couples counseling?
You may benefit from couples counseling if you experience frequent arguments, poor communication, lack of intimacy, infidelity, betrayal trauma, trust issues, or feel “stuck” in unhealthy patterns. Many couples also attend therapy proactively to strengthen their relationship before challenges grow.
What can we expect in our first couples counseling session?
In your first session, I our will get to know both partners, discuss your goals, and identify areas of concern. Together, you’ll begin developing a plan to improve communication, rebuild trust, and create a stronger partnership.
Does couples therapy really work?
Yes. Research shows that couples therapy can significantly improve relationship satisfaction, communication, and emotional intimacy. With commitment and openness, many couples experience lasting positive change.
How many sessions of couples therapy will we need?
The number of sessions depends on your relationship goals and challenges. Some couples benefit from short-term therapy, while others continue longer for deeper growth and support.
Do you offer online couples counseling?
Yes. I provide secure and private online and in-person couples therapy sessions so you and your partner can access support from home, even if you have busy schedules or live in different locations.
What issues can couples therapy help with?
Couples therapy can address:
Communication problems
Conflict resolution
Infidelity and rebuilding trust
Intimacy and emotional connection
Parenting differences
Premarital counseling and preparing for marriage
Separation and divorce decision-making
And more!
Is couples counseling confidential?
Yes. All sessions are confidential, and your privacy is protected. My role as a therapist is to create a safe, supportive space for both partners to share openly.
What if my partner doesn’t want to attend couples therapy?
It’s common for one partner to feel hesitant. Sometimes, starting with an individual consultation helps. When one partner begins making positive changes, it often encourages the other to participate.
How do we get started with couples counseling?
You can begin by scheduling a consultation online or by phone. During this first step, you’ll learn more about my approach and decide together if couples therapy is the right fit for your relationship.
